A laser can reproduce fine lettering, logos and artwork with a level of consistency that is difficult to achieve by eye alone. That makes it useful for intricate one-off work as well as batches where every item needs to match.
A non-contact process
The laser does not need a cutting tool to physically drag across the surface. That can make it suitable for finished items and delicate layouts where control matters, although the material itself still determines what settings and process are appropriate.

Is laser always the best option?
