This circular commemorative plaque combines solid natural slate with two distinct engraved lettering treatments.
The piece measures 500 mm in diameter and 20 mm thick. Arabic lettering is engraved and infilled in gold, while the accompanying English text is engraved and infilled in white.
Using contrasting infill colours allows the two areas of lettering to remain clear against the dark slate while giving the Arabic calligraphy a particularly strong visual presence. The generous 500 mm diameter also gives the design room to breathe rather than forcing detailed lettering into a small format.
The finished piece shows how material, lettering style and infill can be combined to produce a bespoke commemorative plaque with a very different character from a conventional brass or bronze plate.
